A bit about Denise.

I have been a passionate craftswoman since my early years. Some of my childhood memories include crafting clothes for my Cindy doll, hand-knitting a tie for my father and selling macrame items on commission. Although I was something of a sewing disaster at school, I have since enthusiastically and successfully embraced a number of textile crafts, and in 1994 I discovered patchwork: the rest as they say, is history!

I have tried many different forms of patchwork, but my first love is hand work, principally needle-turn applique.

My original career was as a primary school teacher, but I have also worked in the area of professional standards. More recently, and in keeping with my patchwork passion, I worked for a number of years in a large patchwork store, helping hundreds of customers with all their quilting needs.

Today, in addition to my long-arm business, The Quilt House, I also work for Always Quilting, the Australasian distributor of beautiful Aurifil Thread. This is the thread I use on my Gammill quilting machine.

I am an active member of Victorian Quilters Incorporated, Waverley Patchworkers Incorporated, and The Applique Guild of Australia, as well as a number of friendship groups.

Meet Denise

Professional long-arm quilting service.

I have a Gammill Classic quilting machine on a 12 foot table. This means that I can quilt projects that are up to 95 inches long in one direction and even longer in the other, enabling me to quilt large quilts, but it is also possible to quilt small items too. My machine can be fully hand-guided, but it is also fitted with an IntelliQuilter computerised system and I  operate it in both modes, depending on the requirements of individual quilts.

I have a large selection of quilting designs from which to choose as well as many "real" samples made up so that you can see what they look like when they are stitched out.

Meet my machine

Peggy has only been quilting for a year but has really caught the bug. (See more of her work on the testimonial page). Her most recent quilt, which she designed herself is a bookcase quilt. To do justice to the design, each book is individually ditch-stitched, with a little stippling in the background. I designed a simple border to complement the rest of the quilt. Peggy is going to embroider book titles on the spines of the books.
